Faculty of Viticulture and Horticulture
The Faculty of Viticulture and Horticulture was one of the first two major units at the establishment of the Agricultural University as an autonomous higher education institution in 1950. Still it is the only one in that scientific field in Bulgaria and in South-East Europe. During its 67- year history it has established as a Faculty of authority and an integral part of the Agricultural University, with its specific and unique image.

Five specialized Departments, closely related to training of BSc, MSc and PhD students, are functioning in its structure: Viticulture, Horticulture, Fruit-Growing, Agricultural Machinery and Melioration with Land Planning.

Training and research activities of the Faculty are realized by 47 academic staff members, out of them 5 fulltime professors, 24 associate professors, 11 chief assistant professors, 7 assistant professors. One of the university teachers is a Doctor of Science and 43 are PhD holders. The work of the academic staff is assisted by 12 officers, experts and specialists.

Training for the Bachelor’s degree is offered in the following majors:
  1. Horticulture with Viticulture – full-time and parttime;
  2. Ornamental Horticulture – full-time;
  3. Tropical and Subtropical Agriculture – full-time;
  4. Hydromeliorations – full-time and part-time;
  5. Agricultural Engineering – full-time and parttime;
  6. Information and Mechanized Technologies in
  7. Agricultural Production – full-time;
Since its foundation the Faculty has trained over 10 000 students in Horticulture with Viticulture, over 2 000 students in Tropical and Subtropical Agriculture, over 400 students in Agricultural Engineering. A considerable number of students are being trained in the latest majors offered by the Faculty: Hydromeliorations (294 students) and Ornamental Horticulture (166 students).

Good traditions have been established in training Bulgarian and foreign PhD students. Over 40 Bulgarian doctoral students have successfully finished their education and defended their PhD thesis. The foreign doctoral students are from over 25 different countries, among them Bangladesh, Benin, Guinea, Greece, Egypt, Ethiopia, Yemen, Iraq, Cyprus, Cuba, Nigeria, Syria, Slovakia, Sudan, Uruguay.
