Faculty of Viticulture and Horticulture

The Faculty of Viticulture and Horticulture was one of the first two major units at the establishment of the Agricultural University as an autonomous higher education institution in 1950. Still it is the only one in that scientific area in Bulgaria and in South-East Europe. Five specialized Departments closely related to student training are functioning in its structure: Viticulture, Fruit-Growing, Horticulture, Agricultural Machinery and Melioration with Geodesy.

Training for the Bachelor’s degree (4-year period of study for full-time education and 5-year period for part-time education) is offered in:

  1. Viticulture and Horticulture (full-time and part-time)
  2. Tropical and Subtropical Agriculture (full-time)
  3. Hydromeliorations (full-time)
  4. Agricultural Engineering (full-time)

Professional realization:

Bachelor in Viticulture and Horticulture and Tropical and Subtropical Agriculture:

  1. Managers, organizers, technologists and consultants in companies, cooperatives, associations and family farms producing grapes, fruits, vegetables, planting material and flowers, processing or trading with agricultural produce from crops grown in the temperate, subtropical or tropical climatic zones;
  2. Managers, experts and consultants in state and public institutions for extension service;
  3. Research and lecturing staff.

Bachelor in Hydromeliorations:

  1. Managers, technologists and consultants in agricultural enterprises producing crops under intensive irrigation;
  2. Specialists and consultants for design, construction and exploitation of irrigation systems;
  3. Specialists or consultants in associations for irrigation water management and use, in the regional agricultural services;
  4. Research and lecturing staff.

Bachelor in Agricultural Engineering:

  1. Managers of the production process in enterprises for production and post-harvest processing of agricultural produce;
  2. Organizers of production and technical exploitation of the equipment in enterprises for specialized agricultural mechanization services;
  3. Representatives of companies producing agricultural machines;
  4. Experts in testing and assessment of agricultural machines;
  5. Research and lecturing staff.

Master’s degree courses (1 – 1,5-year period of study):

  1. Viticulture and Oenology (Wine Production)
  2. Ornamental plants and landscape design
  3. Agricultural engineering
  4. Seed and planting material production
  5. Irrigation farming
