Purpose

The main objective of the training course on Agronomy (General agronomy) is preparation of highly qualified specialists with wide profile for production of plant produce and management of agricultural produce. 

The specialty of Agronomy (General agronomy) provides an opportunity for gaining up-to-date, actual and specific theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of plant-growing. The programme includes topical biological, agroecological, agrotechnical, plant-protective, selective and economic knowledge, as well as development of skills for optimization of the technological processes in plant-growing. The students gain specialized knowledge of the production of field crops, as well as for the production of most common vegetables and fruits in the country. The most perspective sorts of the main field, vegetable and fruit crops are studied by regions. Apart from the botanical specifications and the biological requirements of the sorts, special attention is paid to the soil and climatic conditions and agricultural equipment, as well as their response to the most important pests, and the economic aspects of the contemporary agricultural produce.  

Career development

Graduates from the Agronomy (General agronomy) programme acquire Bachelor’s degree, with professional qualification of Agronomist and can pursue career as: 

• Organizers and executives of agricultural produce in their own, leased or combined farm; 
• Technologists of agricultural produce in associations, co-operatives and other forms carrying out activity in the agricultural business, making all required decisions – assessment of the conditions of production, selection of crops, sorts and technologies, management of a team of technical operators, application of production technologies;
• Experts, consultants or advisers in companies carrying out business on the basis of trade or processing of agricultural produce;
• Experts in state, district or municipal structures dealing with problems in agriculture; 
• Experts on the matters of agrarian production in credit institutions and non-governmental organizations;
• Specialists ready to continue their education for Master’s degree; 
• Lecturers.
