Tourism Department

Tourism Department has been in the structure of the Faculty of Economics at the Agricultural University – Plovdiv since 2006. The department offers high-quality training in the professional area of tourism /code 3.9/.  The following majors have been developed:

Bachelor`s Degree Programmes: 
• Agricultural Tourism – full-time and part-time modes of study;
Master`s Degree Programmes:
• Tourism Management – full-time and part-time modes of study;

There are two active interdisciplinary master's degree courses: Sustainable Management of Agritourism с “Fan S. Noli” University, Korca, Albania, Economics and Management of Tourism Business and Sustainable Use of Nature and Ecological Tourism.

The department provides training secured by highly-qualified lecturers possessing specific knowledge and competencies in the field of rural tourism and rural development. Lecturers at the department are attracted as experts at the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, non-governmental organizations and a number of scientific and practical projects.

The theoretical training emphasizes on special and specializing tourism-related subjects included in the curricula. The fundamental disciplines provide the theoretical grounding necessary for the professional preparation of students.

The quality of tourism training at the Agrarian University - Plovdiv is guaranteed by over 40 operating contracts, which include partnership contracts with tourism business representatives across the country and abroad. These partner organizations provide practical training to tourism students of AU and ensure, to a great extent, their prospective professional realization. 

A proof for good work of the department`s academic staff is the high grade, recently given by the National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency – 8.62, record № 08/26.04.2018. It lists the Agricultural University - Plovdiv /with the professional area 3.9 Tourism/ among the top five higher educational institutions in Bulgaria in the national ranking for professional area 3.9 Tourism, the index Accreditation Evaluation.
