General and regional statistics

In today's conditions, the need for management structures in order to gain substantial information on various aspects of public activity, requires the development of a specific information infrastructure and has greatly increased. Its specificity is manifested in the possibility of conducting a complex analysis of the ongoing social, economic and others. processes at national, regional and local levels.

Statistics is the basic information and methodological basis for studying the ongoing processes and problems in the socio-economic development of the regions. In this respect, one of the directions for improvement of statistical methodology and practice is the development of regional statistics. In the process of accumulation of theoretical research and practical experience, regional statistics are formed as an independent strand of statistical science.The aim of the course is to give students the knowledge about the nature, specificities and tasks of the regional Statistics.

By studying the theoretical and practical thematic units participating in the subject, students will gain knowledge on the approaches to applying the appropriate statistical methods and techniques in regional research, the use of a system of statistical indicators characterizing different aspects of the socio-economic development of the regions level 2 (NUTS 2), as well as the state and changes in internal and regional differences.

In particular, learners will be able to successfully orient themselves in regional classifications and groupings, the modern methodology of regional statistics, the nature and cognitive significance of territorial indices, statistical methods for revealing, modeling and forecasting trends in regional development, assessing their sustainability and amendment, description of structural territorial changes and differences, etc.

In practice, the capabilities of embedded statistical functions of MS Excel are used.
