The symposium “Addressing Climate Risks and Challenges in Eastern Europe” aims to foster a collaborative and action-oriented dialogue among key stakeholders, including researchers, policymakers, and practitioners. The goal is to develop a shared vision and identify practical pathways for addressing climate change challenges across Eastern Europe.
The event will be structured around a set of key thematic pillars, including:
- Transboundary Water Management and Drought Resilience;
- Forest Management and the Dual Threat of Pests & Wildfires;
- Climate-Smart Agriculture and Soil Conservation;
- Just Transition in Coal-Dependent Regions;
- Resilience of Soviet-Era Infrastructure;
- Balkan Flood Risk and Flash Flood Management;
- Carpathian Mountains as a Climate Refuge and Biodiversity Hotspot;
- Urban Heat Islands and Public Health in Eastern European Cities;
- Financing the Transition: Accessing EU Green Deal Funds and International Climate Finance;
- Regional Energy Security through Renewable Integration.
Selected papers presented at the symposium may be considered for publication in the edited volume: “Addressing Climate Risks and Challenges in Eastern Europe”, to be published by Springer Nature as part of the Climate Change Management Series, a leading peer-reviewed book series on climate-related issues.
There are two ways to participate in the symposium:
- Attendance without presentation: Participants may attend the symposium without a presentation by registering via the designated online form;
- Oral presentation: Researchers are invited to submit complete, original, and unpublished research papers (conceptual or empirical). To participate, authors must submit an abstract of
200 to 300 words, along with the authors' names and full contact details via the following form.

- Registration Deadline: June 15, 2026
- Full Paper Submission (for book, post-symposium): September 30, 2026
