Agricultural University- Plovdiv- partner in the approved European university alliance UNIgreen

Agricultural University – Plovdiv is the only higher education institution in Bulgaria in the field of agricultural and natural sciences, included in the European University Alliance, approved for funding by the European Commission on July 27, 2022.

The alliance is the first project in Europe for a “green” European university in agronomic, biotechnological and natural sciences. It includes 8 partner universities: University of Almeria – Spain, Agricultural University – Plovdiv, Agricultural University of Iceland, Polytechnic Institute in Coimbra, Portugal , Institute of Biotechnology in Paris Sup’Biotech – France, University of Modena UNIMORE – Italy, Warsaw University of Natural Sciences – Poland, HEPL Institute in Liège – Belgium.

The transnational alliance UNIgreen positions itself as a landmark European educational and research institution by strengthening the links between partners in the fields of education, scientific research, innovation, good practices and knowledge transfer.

The lecturers from the partner universities will be able to work on interdisciplinary international studies and projects. Students will have the opportunity to study on programs developed collectively by the partner organizations, participate live or virtually in the learning process, enrich their foreign language skills and increase their level of professional qualification.

The challenges of Europe’s ecological and digital transition require new standards in education and science, as well as a change in the way of interaction between the educational staff, learners and the social environment. New sustainable practices are needed that are in line with nature conservation norms.

Networks of higher education institutions and research centers are the institutions to serve as a catalyst for change in consumer behavior. They are also responsible for the construction of new green and sustainable academic and scientific knowledge and practices, their application by experts and their implementation in the educational, scientific and social environment. This is also the goal of the newly created UNIgreen alliance.

The European University Alliances are an initiative to share resources and experience, and there are currently 44 alliances in Europe involving 340 higher education institutions from across the continent. Agricultural University – Plovdiv is the only higher education institution in Bulgaria in the field of agricultural and natural sciences included in the European University Alliance.
