Students from four countries mark UNIgreen Day at the Agricultural University - Plovdiv 06.03.2026

Students from Greece, Turkey, Canada, and Syria from the Department of Language Training and Sports at the Agricultural University – Plovdiv marked UNIgreen Day with an environmental initiative in the university yard. The event was held under the guidance of Senior Lecturer Dr. Angel Marinov and is part of the activities of the international university alliance UNIgreen.

The UNIgreen alliance brings together eight European universities that work jointly to promote sustainable development, ecological practices and the creation of greener university communities.

On the occasion of the celebration, the students took part in a symbolic initiative by planting a tree in the university yard. The tree is an Oriental plane (Platanus orientalis), a species characteristic of the Bulgarian natural environment and urban landscape.

The tree was donated by the association “Green Balkans – Stara Zagora,” a long-standing partner of the Agricultural University – Plovdiv and a partner in the LifeWatch Bulgaria consortium.

Through this initiative, the students expressed their commitment to environmental protection and their support for sustainable development and green policies in education. The event is part of the efforts of the universities in the UNIgreen alliance to encourage ecological thinking, responsible attitudes toward nature and the active participation of students in activities related to the green transformation of university communities.

The rectorate managemen of the Agricultural University – Plovdiv expresses its gratitude to the association “Green Balkans – Stara Zagora” for the donation and for the long-standing fruitful cooperation.
