Laboratory Manager, Analytical Chemistry

The Centre for Cleantech and Biomass Resource Efficiency (CCBRE) is seeking an experienced Laboratory Manager to lead our analytical laboratory focused on environmental and resource recovery applications. You will oversee operations, people, quality, and instrumentation while advancing method development for complex water and wastewater matrices.
Key Responsibilities
Own day-to-day laboratory operations, including planning, prioritisation, budgeting, procurement, maintenance and supplier management.
Organise the onboarding, training and skills transfer of researchers and PhD students.
Design, optimise and validate analytical methods for inorganic and organic parameters in soil/water/wastewater.
Ensure high standards of quality assurance, documentation, traceability and data integrity, contributing to internal audits and continuous improvement
Perform and troubleshoot advanced measurements on core instruments, and coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance
Manage sampling strategies, sample custody, preparation and safe handling
Interface with project leads, external partners and authorities and prepare concise technical reports and presentations.
Your Profile
Degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field (Master’s or equivalent; PhD a plus).
Minimum 5 years of relevant, instrument intensive lab experience; prior team/line leadership is an advantage.
Proven proficiency with ICP OES, CHNS, FTIR, XRF, UV Vis, and Gas Chromatography (including method development, calibration, and troubleshooting).
Strong grounding in method validation, measurement uncertainty, limits of detection/quantification, and matrix appropriate sample preparation.
Familiarity with QA/QC systems, equipment qualification, and lab IT.
Structured, proactive leader with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Very good command of English; additional languages (e.g., Bulgarian or German) are an asset.
Start Date
01 January 2026 (or by agreement).
Compensation
€1,900 per month.
